Microgaming is launched. The company claims to have created the world's first fully functioning gambling software/online casino called The Gaming Club in this year, although some sources say The Gaming Club wasn't launched until around 1998. There is research suggesting that Microgaming in fact purchased a predecessor to The Gaming Club, the true first online casino in the world, and renamed it to The Gaming Club after the acquisition, which allows Microgaming to claim to be the world's first online casino.
