Slot machines were invented in 1887.
The first slot machine was called the Liberty Bell and was built by Charles Fey in the late 1880s.
Designed more like a poker machine, complete with 5 reels with 10 cards each, this machine did not dispense money. Instead, it offered a beer, cigar or cocktail to the lucky winner.
